Habitat for Humanity
- Helps families in difficult financial situations build new homes, repair current homes, and provide financial education.
- Must be able to pay a mortgage and must volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in return.
HEAT Programs
- HEAT programs are available to apply for from November 1-September 30.
- Must make less than 150% of the federal poverty level.
- Must have at least one US citizen or US qualified noncitizen in the house.
- Must be responsible for paying for energy costs.
- Apply online.
Housing Choice Voucher Programs
- A long term rental assistance program.
- Has a long waiting list of 2-3 years.
- Must make less than 50% of the median household income of the area.
- Apply for the waiting list through the local housing authorities listed below.
Mutual Self Help Program
- Those who qualify for the program work with a construction specialist to build a new home.
- No construction knowledge is required to participate in the program.
- Different counties have different eligibility requirements- see the links below for more information in your county.
Rent to Own Program: CROWN Program
- Allows people to pay rent towards a home for 15 years while earning credit to purchase the home in the future.
- The payments toward the home are cheaper in the long-run than paying for a home.
Weatherization Programs
- Must own a home in Utah.
- Must make under 200% of the federal poverty level.
- Must have at least one person in the home who is a US citizen.
- Must apply for HEAT before applying for the weatherization program.
- The local housing authority will provide free weatherization services to help people save money on energy bills.
