Out-of-hospital births
Out-of-hospital (OOH) births are more than twice as common in Utah as the U.S. overall, at 4.4% compared to 2.1% in 2021. OOH birth is also increasing at a faster rate in Utah than nationally, with a particularly dramatic increase following the initial spread of COVID-19 in 2019.
